Scientists discovered two new species of orchid. Scientists belonging to University of Vigo have found these new species of Carribbean orchid (Orchidaceae: Laeliinae) in Cuba. Encyclia navarroi is the first species of orchid that was discovered. It has been observed that this pecies has substantially large flowers. Tetramicra riparia species is the another species which was discovered by the team. Tetramicra riparia species is found on the banks of stony streams in the mountains of Baracoa. Baracoa is one of the least explored places of Cuba. Charles Darwin has drawn many of his hypotheses by studying the orchid family species. He proposed hypotheses about the inter relations of plants, flowers, pollinations and biodiversity.
The group of scientists of University of Vigo are studying the ecological and evolutionary consequences of deceit pollination in orchids. Their study focusses to reconstruct the evolutionary history of orchids which will let them understand the variations in colours of orchids. Taking these orchids as models, they analyse the effect of pollinators in the reproduction of plants. Their study also encompases to evaluate the ancestor and to find the origin of these plants; if their origin is from Cuba or from nearby terrestail areas.Hope they can bring out more information in future.
